Dad’s Prayer for January 16th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You promised to help me, and I need that before this day even starts. I have a hard talk with my boss, which I keep putting off. I have a homework fight waiting at home that already wears me out. Help me. Not just a feeling. Real help. Loosen the tight place in my jaw before that meeting. Put the right words in my mouth when my son comes home angry. Make me less worried about looking good and more ready to actually help. And let me notice when You step in, instead of taking the credit myself. I have been doing that for years. I want to stop.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
