Dads
Dad’s Prayer for January 7th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Paul said that for him to live is Christ. I want to mean that too, but right now it feels like I would be bluffing. So I bring You what is really in me. The work I am proud of. The work I am hiding. The part of my marriage I am taking care of. The part I am letting slide. The way I love my kids. The way I correct them too sharply. Take all of it, Christ, and make Yourself the center. Not as words I memorize. As the reason I do what I do next. Change even one small part of today, and I will be grateful. Start there. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
