Parable
Prayer from the Parable of the Workers In the Vineyard
Anchors: Matthew 20:11
Father, the workers who started early got the same pay as the ones who came late. And something in me does not like that. I have watched a man come to You on his deathbed and felt the twitch. I have watched a colleague get the same promotion and felt it again. It is not that I was cheated. It is that I wanted to be favored. But Your pay was never a wage. It was always a gift. I did not earn my way in. I came hungry. Cure the twitch in me. Make me glad when latecomers receive the same grace I did. Keep me from being jealous of a God who is more generous than I am.
Amen.
